If you want beach, food, and nightlife without renting a car, Condado is hard to beat.
Old San Juan
The 500-year-old walled city is beautiful, with blue cobblestones, colorful facades, and the forts of El Morro and San Cristobal. Rentals here are mostly apartments in historic buildings. It is wonderful for atmosphere, but there is no real beach in the old city, parking is difficult, and cruise ship crowds fill the streets on port days. Many guests prefer to stay in Condado and visit Old San Juan for day trips and dinners.
Isla Verde
Technically in Carolina, just east of San Juan, Isla Verde has a wide resort-style beach and sits closest to the airport. It is a good fit if your priority is maximum beach time. The tradeoff is that it feels more isolated: you will likely need taxis or a car to reach Old San Juan and the rest of the city.
Ocean Park
Between Condado and Isla Verde, Ocean Park is quieter and more residential, with a lovely beach popular with locals and kitesurfers. Rentals here are often guesthouses and apartments on calm streets. It suits travelers who want a low-key beach stay and do not mind walking a bit further to restaurants.
